Standards

Today’s little rant. After arriving in Rome I did, as I always do since I am a computer geek, fire up my computer to see what had happened during my flight over here. Everything was just fine untill I tried to plug the laptop powersupply into the wall, the plug did not fit, straaaange.
It suddenly occured to me that Italian plug are different from European plugs for no good reason, they look mostly the same, but are slightly thinner. So for some reason the Italians have chosen a standard not compatible with anything else and I needed and adapter, so far so good. The only problem was that everybody else also needed an adapter and the hotel was out. So, now I am enjoying my last 48 minutes of computing before the power goes out…
Guess next time I travel to Italy I will now that I am travelling to a place outside Europe and remember an adapter.
Update: Actually I managed to get it to work, the plugs can be forced to be compatible by adding the necessary amount of force ![]()
